The best beaches and coves on the Costa Brava. Which one’s yours?

The Costa Brava owes a large part of its fame to its coves, surrounded by rocks and pine trees, with crystal-clear water and undeniably beautiful, together with its large, white sandy beaches.

There is great variety: from unspoilt coves that are difficult to access, to others with all the services and facilities as they are near town centres. And, as it should be, all our beach hotels are in some of the best coves or beaches on the Costa Brava.

There will always be coves worth visiting on the Costa Brava, but we suggest starting with these ones, in order from the northernmost to the southernmost one, and all near our hotels:

1- Cala Jòncols: a concealed delight with a rich seabed

An unspoilt beach in the fantastic natural surroundings of the Cap de Creus Natural Park. One of the favourites for diving and snorkelling fans due to its rich marine life.

As it is only accessible from the coastal pathalong a dirt track, or by boat, means it is exclusive and the perfect place to relax. Be aware that it’s a pebbly beach so be sure to bring the right footwear.

2- Roses Bay: a large natural beach, right next to the town centre

Considered one of the most beautiful bays in the world, to the south of the Cap de Creus, it is a vast sandy area of 45 kilometres long, which to the north joins the “Aiguamolls” [Natural Park of Marshlands] of the Alt Empordà with the village of Roses.

Away from the bustling area in front of the town centre, towards the south we can find some very quiet areas, which we can reach by bicycle. Ideal spots for families for its fine sand and the very gradual gradient of the sea from the shore.

The facilities of the Hotel Terraza are on the promenade that encircle it, and from the Hotel Vistabella we will enjoy the best view, especially of some spectacular sunsets.

3- Pals Beach: spacious and ideal for families… and also with a nudist section

A beautiful beach covering more than 3.5 km, where it is always possible to find a quiet corner. Surrounded by dunes, the mouth of the Rec del Molí and the Ter mark different sections, but the unmistakable silhouette of the archipelago of the Medes Isles can be seen from all of them.

Along this long beach, to the south is the spot ideal for families, in the central part, away from the town centres, there is a nudist section. And even farther to the north, there’s an area where dogs are allowed a swim too.

The La Costa Beach & Golf Resort located in the 100% family area has facilities right on the beach front, ranging from restaurants to nautical activities.

4- Aiguablava: the most crystalline waters

One of the best coves in Begur, always included in the rankings of the best places on the Costa Brava. Blue water, as its name indicates; deep but calm, ideal for snorkelling or diving.

Two of our hotels offer spectacular views of the cove, the Hotel Aigua Blava and the Parador de Aiguablava.

Its appeal makes it a very visited cove, we recommend that you go early in the morning to avoid the crowds.

5- Cala del Pi and Sa Cova: small jewels

Both in Platja d’Aro, accessible by the coastal path that comes from Cala Rovira northward. Both are small and set back, surrounded by cliffs and vegetation, with rocks that jut out in their crystal-clear water.

At Cala del Pi, we find one of the five-star Costa Brava Luxury Hotels, and its terraces practically hang right over the cove and the coastal path.

An ideal spot to visit all year round to enjoy the coastal path, which is accessible from the hotel itself. Like Aiguablava, in the peak of the summer, it is recommended that you go in the morning and take advantage of this peaceful time and the spectacular sunrises.

6- S’Agaró: the iconic picture postcard of the colourful beach huts

La platja de S’Agaró es troba entre els termes dels municipis de Sant Feliu de Guíxols i Castell-Platja d’Aro.

It is a well-equipped sandy beach with shallow water, one of the most traditional, famous and recognised beaches of the Costa Brava, with 100 years of history. Its colourful beach huts are an iconic image of the Costa Brava.

The coastal path that leads to Sa Conca, very close to Platja d’Aro, starts to the north of the beach. Just before, there is the Hotel S’Agaró, with splendid views of the beach.

7- Fenals Beach: not far from the town of Lloret

Located near the centre of Lloret, it is the second largest beach in the town, protected to the south of a small cape that separates it from the town centre.

It has all the services, it is bustling and lively in the summer, and offers a beautiful setting for walks outside the bathing season. From the Hotel Rigat we enjoy the best of both worlds.

An outstanding beach or cove is never far from the beach Costa Brava Luxury Hotels beachside establishments
