Las Gavarres, and the expanse that stretches out into the sea, Cadiretes, are mountainous massifs between the coastal and inland regions of Girona. Intensely inhabited until the middle of the 20th century, here we find old water mills, cobbled paths and large country houses. Highlights include its forests of oak, chestnut and pine trees, but above all, the holm oak and cork oak trees, from which cork is extracted, which was the basis of a thriving cork industry at that time.
